2020: The Christmas Card Comeback

2020: The Christmas Card Comeback

It’s safe to say that this year has been unlike anything we’ve experienced – for most generations, anyway. And with the festive season approaching, we’re all hoping for an opportunity to see family and loved ones in real life, rather than on the screens of our phones or laptops.

As we’ve all been spending more time at home, one aspect of print that has seen a resurgence is the humble greetings card. Whether it was a birthday, a get well soon or just some well wishes to those we were unable to see, a card that could be posted (great excuse to get out the house, too) and then held in the hand of the receiver was a welcome addition to the day.

Now, with Christmas on the cards (sorry, couldn’t resist), we’ve seen an increase in demand for these beautifully printed messages of cheer. And it’s not just the Christmas card that’s making a comeback. We’ve been producing more and more gift and presentation boxes – the perfect present for friends, clients, colleagues and staff. After all, who wouldn’t want to receive an unexpected box of treats to their door?

In 2019, the greeting card market value in the UK was listed at £1.3billion*, with 90% of those cards purchased in retail stores. However, due to the 2020 pandemic, buyer behaviour shifted to online shopping, with some companies in the US reporting a 1,200% increase in sales**.

At maxim our offering is a little different, as it gives you the chance to send something truly personalised and bespoke. We can bring your vision to life, whether it’s a simple Christmas card with a stunning foiled design, or a company branded gift box with a bottle of bubbles inside.

Our range of recycled and sustainable stock also means you can keep your Christmas green. One of the unique materials we use is Seed Paper, which can be planted after use. This means your festive card will live on after its primary use, and become some beautiful wild flowers depending on the seed chosen.

We’re here for any of your holiday card and gift ideas, most of which can be printed and delivered the next day. If you have a project you’d like to discuss, simply contact us today.
